The Army sponsors several award programs that recognize and promote aspects of environmental stewardship and sustainability. Information about these programs are provided below.

Secretary of the Army Environmental Awards

Each year, the Army recognizes and rewards excellence for the development, management and transferability of environmental programs that increase environmental quality, enhance the mission and help make the Army sustainable. You can read about these best practices for the environment here.

Updated The winners for the Fiscal Year 2012 Secretary of the Army (SECARMY) Environmental Awards Program have been announced. As in previous years, the SECARMY Environmental Awards winners go on to compete in the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Environmental Awards Program.

Each year since 1962, the Secretary of Defense has honored individuals, teams, and installations for their outstanding achievements to conserve and sustain the natural and cultural resources entrusted to the Department of Defense. Over the years the categories included in the Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards program have morphed into those listed below, which are alternated for even and odd years.

The winners of the Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards Program competition have also been announced. The Army won three categories in this year's Secretary of Defense competition. Aberdeen Proving Ground took the Environmental Restoration installation award; Dorenda Coleman, Arizona Army National Guard's sustainability manager, won the team/individual award for Sustainability; and Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center's Counterfeit Refrigerant Impact Team captured the Environmental Excellence in Weapon System Acquisition award in the small program category. Congratulations go out to all the Army winners. Winners will be recognized at a Pentagon ceremony in July.

  • Clean Air Excellence Awards
The Clean Air Excellence Awards Program is sponsored by the EPA's Office of Air and Radiation. The program recognizes individuals and organizations that have undertaken the risks of innovation, served as pioneers in their fields and have helped to improve air quality. The program is open to both public and private entities in the United States.
  • FedCenter.gov
The Awards page lists sources of environmental awards offered by Federal and State government and non-profit organizations. The list is arranged by media type and/or by agency or region.
