FY07 award winners

The Secretary of the Army Environmental Awards represent the highest honor conferred by the Army in the field of environmental science. FY06 award winners

Some of the noteworthy accomplishments credited to the 2005 winners included programs that enhanced wildlife habitats at the same time they provided ideal training conditions; safely and successfully cleaned up contamination; preserved invaluable state cultural history; created innovative pollution-prevention approaches; and fielded weapon systems built with both the Soldier and environmental safety in mind.

Some of the noteworthy accomplishments credited to this year's winners include: identifying a new, quick and cost-effective method for the removal of chlorinated solvents from soil; creating a Native American Keepsafe Cemetery that will protect Native American artifacts; developing a tool that can create large-scale land cover maps of an entire installation; and conducting community education events such as cultural enrichment lectures.

FY03 award winners
Preserving the environment while protecting the nation's freedom is a difficult balancing act, but this year's Secretary of the Army Environmental Award winners prove the effort creates successful environmental stewardship. The Army's commitment to its environmental mission has allowed its men and women to save the endangered shortnose sturgeon population in Georgia; restore a World War II defense outpost in Alaska; maintain a pristine Hawaiian ecosystem; and ensure the nation’s premier combat vehicle — the Stryker — is environmentally friendly.
